Though we started as a small, lesser-known brand amidst industry giants, Matjiesfontein Water quickly earned the trust of major partners like Sasol, BP, Engen, Shell, and Aquablast, who recognized the exceptional quality of our water. The Discovery
While searching the Karoo’s rugged terrain for a much-needed water source, our founders stumbled upon an ancient aquifer 170 meters underground, its water untouched by modern pollutants. Testing revealed its natural alkalinity (pH 7.3–8.12) and mineral richness, sparking a vision to share this pristine resource.
2018
Matjiesfontein Water is Born
Matjiesfontein Water was officially founded, with our first bottling facility established near the aquifer. We committed to minimal filtration, preserving the water’s natural mineral balance while ensuring safety and consistency.
2019
First Major Partnership
Engen became our first major client, supplying Matjiesfontein Water to their Convenience Store network. Their trust in our quality marked the beginning of our journey from a small brand to a recognized name.

We launched our sustainability initiative, introducing 100% recyclable PET bottles and pledging to protect the Karoo ecosystem above our aquifer, ensuring the land remains pristine for future generations.

Expanding Reach with Big Brands
BP & Sasol joined as partners, stocking Matjiesfontein Water at their service stations across South Africa. Our water’s crisp taste and WHO compliance made it a favorite among travelers and workers.

Nationwide Expansion
Fuel giant Shell joins the family distributing Matjiesfontein Water to over 600 stores in there Shell Select convenience centers, making Matjiesfontein Water accessible to households from the Karoo to urban centers like Johannesburg and Durban.

Growing Our Community
Aquablast, a leading South African water solutions company, partnered with us to distribute Matjiesfontein Water to the informal sector and larger cash and carry stores.
